Is Scar Camouflage An Option For You?

Scar, or Skin Camouflage Micro Pigmentation, is a form of medical or paramedical tattooing. This process is also called Corrective Pigment Camouflage (CPC), Corrective Camouflage, Skin Repigmentation, Scar Camouflage, Skin Camouflage, Camouflage Tattooing, and Skin Color Tattooing.

  • Burn Scars

  • Hypo Pigmentations

  • Surgery Scars

  • Stretch marks

  • Plastic Surgery Scars

  • Cleft Palates

  • Injury Scars

  • Congenital Anomalies

  • Vitiligo (in remission)

  • Port Wine Birthmarks (only after multiple sessions with laser to cauterize the vessels and only under recommendation and doctor’s order)

It is a very specialized area of permanent makeup skill only a few technicians have been trained in as it requires advanced knowledge, training and experience in permanent cosmetics as well as an artistic eye for color and skin tones. We understand the science behind the physiology of human skin and tissue as well as the pigments.

Both men and women can benefit from scar camouflage procedures. Facial burns; scar discolorations, vitiligo, and other blemishes can often be dramatically diminished through our advanced micropigmentation. Although the success rate of these procedures is very high, often multiple treatments are necessary in order to complete the process.

At the first visit or consultation session, we will perform a patch test to ensure that we have the best color matches and that it is deem safe for the clients to proceed. Often we refer to the doctor’s order or consult with the office before we proceed. Subsequent visits for pigmentation will be scheduled after that. Although this may seem like a lengthy process this can’t be rushed as it takes time to make sure the color develops well. Scar tissue unlike normal skin is not as flexible or smooth. It is often distorted, mangled, raised or sunken and will most certainly react differently from normal, healthy skin.

Please see the following complications for this procedure and when it is NOT advised!

  • The scar is still pink or changing color (has to be at least one year old)

  • The scar is not smooth or flat enough (If your scar or skin area is bumpy or raised, the process may not be effective)

  • The scar has dark edges (Indicates Post Inflammatory Hyper-pigmentation (PIHP) from the initial trauma or surgery. CPC can make it worst. Dark skin tones especially are affected)

  • If you have Keloids

  • Also not advised for spider veins; freckles; age spots; under eye circles; hyper-pigmentation

How it works

Consultation: We will take time to discuss your requirements, assess your scarring and propose a tattooing strategy to meet your needs.  We will advise you of the number of sessions we expect your treatment to take and fully explain the procedure. We will make sure you are completely happy with the proposed treatment before proceeding.

Pigment blending: We will prepare a number of custom-blended pigments specifically for your skin tone.

Tattooing: Before beginning the treatment, we will apply local anesthetic cream to make the procedure as comfortable as possible, helping you relax. We will then use our artistic skill with the tattooing pen to recolor your scar, using pigment blends prepared for you to recreate your natural skin tone.

Healing: We will apply a healing ointment and, if necessary, a light dressing. Healing time varies, but in most cases, after about five days the top layers of skin will have healed. The pigments will continue to settle under the top layers of skin for some time after this.

Throughout the process we fully understanding the sensitive nature our work, treating you with warmth, respect and care, making you feel comfortable and relaxed.

While scar camouflage is not suitable for every scar, it is ideal for almost all white and silvery colored scars. We treat a wide range of scars, including those related to medical and cosmetic surgery, self harming, alopecia, vitiligo, accidents and burns. Scar camouflage is suitable for all nationalities and skin types.

Whatever the circumstances in which you were scarred or left with skin pigmentation damage, don’t live with the results any longer. Let InkCredible Outcomes help you step into freedom, to live and enjoy your life.

Scar Relaxation Techniques

What if we told you there is a treatment that could significantly improve the appearance and feel of scars, stretch marks and burns?

Many of us have scarring that we are self-conscious about, whether it’s from an accident, surgery or stretch marks due to childbirth or weight gain/loss. Most people have no idea this treatment even existed. Most people are elated when they discover that they could do something about their scarring!

The treatment’s name – MCA Scar Treatment. To give it its full name; Multi-Trepannic Collagen Actuation. Let us explain what the treatment involves and it’s wonderful benefits.

Firstly, please don’t be put off by the word ‘tattoo’ or ‘tattooing’.  This treatment is a dry needling treatment, which means there is no pigment used at all. So while the machine is indeed a tattoo machine (a specialist medical machine), this is by no means a tattoo treatment. We promise you will not be leaving with any ink in your skin whatsoever!

Interested? Are you wondering how it works?

MCA scar treatment involves the use of a specialist needle that enters the surface layers of the skin, just enough to cause a minor controlled trauma to the scarred area.  This minor trauma stimulates the blood flow to the area, which kick starts the body’s natural healing process.   The dry needling technique causes tiny punctures, which creates channels that trigger the body to produce collagen, melanin and elastin, therefore promoting further healing.

Sounds a bit scary, but we promise it isn’t. The area is numbed for 20-30 minutes with local anesthetic. The “worst” part about this treatment is how it looks immediately afterwards: Red (that’s the blood that’s been bought to the surface) and may feel like you’ve sustained a fresh injury. Dry needling is so concentrated and is very minor that it really doesn’t cause any real pain for discomfort.

So what happens after an MCA Scar Treatment?

  • New tissue grows into the damaged skin and collagen, elastin and melanin production is stimulated as part of this new healing process.

  • Loose and sunken stretch marks fill out and appear smoother and firmer.

  • Discolored scars start to normalize and skin tone/color evens out.

  • Scars that are raised and bumpy flatten out and become less visible

  • Tight scars relax and become less restricted.

  • Areas of scar numbness begin to have returned feeling.

This treatment really is fantastic for anyone that would like to improve the appearance and feel of a scars, burns and stretch marks. While there is no guarantee as to the exact results, most patients will notice a marked improvement after just one treatment.

The treatment plan usually consists of three treatments, each four to six weeks apart. It is at this point that we will know how well the treated area is responding. We would need to wait a further four to six months after the third treatment, before determining whether a fourth treatment is necessary.

  • During the treatment you will barely feel any pain.

  • Immediately after treatment: It will be bright red and look like a new injury, however, this is a good sign as the healing process has started.

  • Over the next seven days keep it dry (apart from showering) and apply vitamin A&D cream twice, daily.

  • The first three weeks, it will look like a healing wound; a little bit pink and scaly. No deep scabbing, though, as the trauma was only surface level.

  • After four weeks you could start to see some great results!

  • At six weeks, you will be ready for your second treatment.

MCA Scar Therapy (Multi-trepannic Collagen Actuation) is also known as dry needling or micro needling.

MCA Therapy is carried out with the use of a specialist medical tattooing machine, using a dry needle technique (no pigment/colour used).  The treatment consists of a needle that enters the surface layers of the skin, just enough to cause a minor trauma and stimulate blood flow to the area.  The process causes minute punctures, which creates channels that trigger the body to produce collagen, melanin and elastin, in order to fill the wounds – therefore promoting further healing.

Whilst this isn’t a scar removal treatment (no such thing exists unfortunately), it can improve the look, feel, firmness and appearance of scars considerably.

So, what happens after an MCA Scar Treatment?

  • New tissue grows into the damaged skin and collagen, elastin and melanin production is stimulated as part of this new healing process.

  • Loose and sunken stretch marks fill out and appear smoother and firmer.

  • Discolored scars start to normalize and skin tone/color evens out.

  • Scars that are raised and bumpy flatten out and become less visible

This treatment really is fantastic for anyone that would like to improve the appearance and feel of a scars, burns and stretch marks. Whilst there is no guarantee as to the exact results, most patients will notice a marked improvement after just one treatment.  Typically a course of treatment is three to four treatments to be carried out 4-6 weeks apart.

Most scars, burns and stretch marks respond well to this treatment.

Skin Needling

Skin needling can improve the texture and tightness of your skin by as much as 50%. Needling treatments, also known as micro-needling, stimulates healthy growth and recovery below the skins surface.

We can reduce the appearance of acne scars, sunspots, saggy skin, crow’s feet and more.

Short, surgical grade stainless steel needles on a needling pen are applied directly to the affected area over multiple sessions, creating a “controlled injury” that activates collagen and elastin production in skin cells.

Skin needling – also known as micro-needling, dry needling, dry tattooing, intradermabrasion, derma rolling, percutaneous collagen induction (PCI) or collagen induction therapy is the most effective on white scars or stretch marks.

Needling can also reduce liver spots, but additional treatments may be required.

Collagen and elastin are the primary proteins that make up your body’s connective tissues. When more of these natural elements form in your skin, deep lines start to fill in, stretch marks and acne scars fade as new pigment appears, and your skin looks more elastic and youthful.

My first appointment

“Any nerves I had were quickly dissipated; my technician, Sian, made me feel completely at ease and I found that chatting to her both before and during the treatment helped to take my mind off of any potential fears. Just like any treatment, the more relaxed your body is, the more comfortable it will feel. We began by discussing my current brows vs. my dream brows; I wasn’t wearing any make up so I showed Sian some photographs of how I ‘do’ my eyebrows and I said that I wanted them to look ‘done’ without looking completely fake. Sian worked her eyebrow science and quickly measured and mapped out where my brows should begin and end, then drew them on in lots of detail and precision so that I could see exactly what the finished product would look like.

When the treatment began I was more surprised by the noise than the sensation. It’s similar to someone ripping paper very close to your ear, or a little like the sound that a fine tooth comb makes if you run it along your finger. As someone with sensitive eyes, the thing I actually found most uncomfortable was the bright light which made my eyes water (I cry at the dentist for the same reason – ha!). Once the initial stage was over, the skin was broken and the numbing cream re-applied I could’ve actually had a little nap. In fact, I think I probably did because the appointment seemed to fly by. By far the worst moment, which thankfully lasts for maybe 20 seconds tops, was the application of the final layer of pigment.

And just like that, after about 20 minutes or so, we were done. I sat up, was handed a mirror and genuinely gasped. I could not believe how incredible they looked, nor that they were actually MINE on MY face. They explained the aftercare process and I skipped on my merry way…”

Day One

“That afternoon, as the numbing cream wore off I got a bit of a headache and took a couple of ibuprofen. Making any kind of expressive brow movement felt quite uncomfortable; I had the girls round that evening and my catchphrase of the night was “Stop making me laugh!” I had been warned that for a few days after the appointment they would be dramatically dark and sent a full Aftercare 101 guide from my technician. They pressed just how important the aftercare is, in fact she said it’s as important, if not more so, than the treatment itself. She could do the most amazing job but if you don’t look after them religiously for those first 10 days then it’s worthless. No pressure.”

Day Five

“Halfway through the recovery and I was finding the aftercare surprisingly easy. In fact, it is easy. Don’t get them wet, don’t touch them and apply coconut oil with a cotton bud 2-3 times per day to keep them hydrated. Simple! The most frustrating part by far was being unable to give my face a quick wash; instead I used my usual cleanser and applied it avoiding my brows. Every evening I used a baby wipe to very, very gently wipe my brows and remove any coconut oil build up or bacteria.”

Day Seven

“I had been warned that as they scabbed they were likely to flake but was pleasantly surprised by how limited this actually was. I hadn’t particularly been looking forward to walking around looking like I had gone moldy. At around day 7-8 they began to scab which was a little itchy and I really had to resist the temptation to pick. Instead, I slathered them with my new BFF, coconut oil, and powered through.”

Day 10

“My brows had healed and any scabbing had stopped, but I waited another couple of days before washing my face properly, just to be on the safe side. By this point they looked much lighter than what I wanted but thankfully they had warned me that this would happen, so I didn’t panic.”

Day 14

“About two weeks after the treatment I felt like my brows were officially ‘done’ and I started cleansing my face as normal again. They looked amazing but I did find that with a full face of makeup they weren’t quite as dark as I’d like, so I was applying a tinted brow gel. Having got used to my new set, I was really excited for my touch up appointment so that I could ask them to make them a little more dramatic.”

My second appointment

“This time there were no nerves because I was fully prepared for the treatment. They was really impressed with how well I’d looked after them (gold star for me) and I explained how I wanted them a little darker and perhaps a tiny bit fuller, now that I’d got used to the shape. The purpose of the touch up appointment is to ensure that your brows have healed properly and that they are 100% what you want. I was in and out in now time at all with solid 10/10 brows and another 10 days of aftercare (at which I am now a pro).”

I am a total convert. The treatment is not cheap and I was grateful to be invited to try it out to share with you all, however I will absolutely be paying them to redo them in around a years time. They are an investment but the time (and money on products, waxes and tints) it saves is well worth it in my eyes. I would absolutely recommend InkCredible Outcomes; they were incredibly professional, the clinic itself is clean and relaxing. I felt well looked after and completely informed the whole time.
